May's Journal
July's Journal
25/06/2024
June started quietly, thank goodness. A weekend of almost nothing was just
what was needed. Rel had, following our visit to see my parents, begun a
mammoth trip to South Sudan and Kenya. So the weekend was doubly quiet,
really. While she was away she managed to fit in a quick weekend trip to
Rwanda to run the Kigali Peace Marathon while I did a local half marathon to
keep her company and get my June half marathon knocked off quickly. Again, not
as fast as I would have liked, but the weather was warm and the course
definitely not road only.
Rel was away for another whole week while I fought (and won) Red Hat to get a
piece of software patched for certain security issues. I was then able to get
that software installed, which reduced the number of vulnerabilities reported
by our scanning software. So that was a good week. Rel flew home on the 15th
to a house and fridge filled with all the things she'd been missing (including
me). She couldn't stay for more than a day or so, but it was enough to
reconnect properly. Which leads us to last week, when I had a week full of
work, Rel had half a week, then an early weekend of fastpacking on the Pennine
Way with an ultra running friend as recce for them doing the Summer Spine Race.
During that weekend I took my monthly trip to see my parents and do any jobs
they needed doing as well as just be with them for a few days. While I was
there I ordered some trekking poles for the hiking trip I'm taking with Rel and
her mother this weekend and next in Cornwall. Thankfully they arrived for
collection yesterday, which means I'll be able to use them for both this trip
and the overnight pacing of Rel for her Dales Highway ultra almost immediately
afterwards.
So, yes, Cornwall tomorrow, and back to work on July 5th for one day before I
get trains to meet Rel in the gathering darkness and we run ~50K through the
night! More on that in July's entry, I hope!
