From: Amanda Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 17:43:33 -0700 Subject: rant for the PFY section I wish to severely lart some people, namely the luser(s) at Compaq who came up with that abortion called a Proliant Server. Netware is going away, so all the files on the NetWare server are going to be moved to an NT server that is going to be upgraded to WIN2K. So four 38 gig drives were ordered to replace the 9 gigs already in the NT server. This was supposed to be a easy thing to put the bigger drives in - put them in, install NT on them and restore everything from tape backup - WRONG! Thanks to the wonderful technology from Compaq, a week was spent trying to get the raid to work and get NT to install on it - the "smart start" software that is used to setup the raid is not quite that smart, but since it was a Compaq server, that particular waste of 1's and 0's had to be used. And of course, the package the disk came in said it was "the quick and easy way to setup your Compaq server." After NT was finally installed and the original files restored, Exchange decided that it didn't want to run. Restoring it from tape corrupted the database and of course a few days was spent fixing that headache. The damned thing works now, people can receive and send email, but it is still flaky - sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I swear, if I get my hands on the person who thought of exchange, I am going to hurt him.
